Dr. Umadevi Kandalam, PhD, is an accomplished academic and researcher currently serving as Associate Professor of Physiology at the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, and as faculty at the L. Frederick Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. With more than 20 years of research experience and 15 years of teaching at undergraduate, predoctoral, and postgraduate levels, she has established herself as a leader in biomedical sciences and dental education. Her research expertise lies in stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, and translational science, with more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and over 60 conference presentations to her credit. She has served as principal investigator on 14 funded projects, securing over $400,000 in external and institutional grants, and as co-investigator on several other funded studies. Dr. Kandalam has been instrumental in establishing biomedical core laboratory facilities at her institution, fostering a platform for cutting-edge research and mentoring. She has guided more than 50 predoctoral, postgraduate, and undergraduate students, many of whom have received awards, presented at national and international conferences, and co-authored scientific manuscripts. A dedicated educator, she has contributed significantly to curriculum design, implementation of active learning methodologies, and integrated clinical teaching approaches, including case-based and flipped classroom strategies. She has delivered invited talks and keynote addresses at global meetings and served on numerous academic and professional committees. Her contributions have been recognized with honors such as the Young Scientist Award, Faculty Scientific Research Award from AAOMS and Osteoscience Foundation, and multiple external funding recognition awards.
